The mask itself is in good condition and does not appear to have seen much use, however, the rubber hoses were cut where the connection is made to the canisters. Measurements for leather carriers (same for L&R): The leather top tie down string is still present on both the left and right carrier and are in perfect working order. The brass fittings used to attach the buckles, clips and rings have some oxidation present, leaving the surrounding leather surface a greenish color. The leather is still soft with no tears or holes with all stitching still intact. The leather cases show minimal use with minor cracking due to age. The left and right leather canister carriers are in similar condition to the leather on the canvas carry bag for the mask. The leather straps and buckles are in perfect working order and condition, displaying no damage or paint loss to the buckles and bales. The mask carrying case is in near mint condition with only minor staining to the canvas and minor staining around the brass fittings and buckles, leaving a greenish residue. Surprisingly enough, this set still has the actual mask! Horses in the Cavalry and Pack Mules were not as common in WWII as they were in WWI, making the Horse Gas Mask all the more rare. government issued the M4 gas masks for the horses being used in service.
